Whetstone Sharpening 101

Learn the basics on how to assess, repair, sharpen, and maintain your own double bevel knives using Japanese whetstones.

In this class you will get your hands dirty using the same high-quality imported Japanese whetstones we use in our shop, to learn the fundamentals of whetstone sharpening so you can start maintaining your standard double bevel knives at home. Together we will explore how to assess the condition of a knife, how to best service an array of issues, the basic sharpening motions to get a dead-dull edge all the way to a sharp working edge, as well as general knife sharpening background information to help give a well-rounded foundation to the subject.

Class Details:

The class will run approximately 1.5-2 hours, have 6-8 students, come with an informational packet to take home, and all materials will be provided (but you can bring your own if desired). Students will receive 10% off sharpening supplies the day of the class. Bandaids will be provided. Cost is TBD.

Completing this class will allow you to be eligible to attend the future planned Intermediate and Advanced sharpening classes.
