A custom utility spoon stamped and finished by hand, designed for control and consistency.

The well is formed deep to cradle liquid - one tablespoon exactly, to help with recipe continuity and reduce the amount of tools needed on hand - and pointed at the tip for precise pouring or basting. The handle is long enough to stir a braise or a pot of beans, and nimble enough to sauce a plate or scrape the corners of a rondeau or quart container. Inspired by the worn and tarnished steel often found at flea markets, and modeled after old American and European silhouettes the spoon is tumbled and unpolished. This creates a matte and imperfect material finish, unique to each piece.

Packaging is constructed with recycled chipboard.

Dimensions: 450mm x 295mm x 20mm

Weight: 691g

Material: Kiri Wood (Paulownia).

Notes: While technically a hardwood, Kiri Wood is particularly soft on knife edges. It is extremely light, resistant to decay, and has an even higher strength to weight ratio than balsa wood. Kiri Wood's lightweight makes it ideal for taking on hikes, picnics, camping, or simply as an everyday board. Due to its low density and low hardness, it is not advised to be used for heavy-duty work like butcher cleaving, sawing, or forceful impacts. Native to East Asia.

Care: Wash with warm, soapy water, only using something scrubby or abrasive when needed, otherwise use the soft-side of a sponge or simply a towel or rag. Wipe as dry as possible. Once fully dry, store flat if possible. Use food-safe oil or wax blend when the board feels dry, you do not need to constantly oil. Do not let soak. At your discretion you can use a fairly high-grit sandpaper to condition the surface to remove discoloration and maring; oil afterwards.

Disclaimer: These cutting boards are made out of single or 2-3 pieces of natural lumber  and could warp over time, it is a natural aspect of raw wood. We do not accept returns for warped boards.

These are some of the best cutting boards in the world! Requiring an impressive 250-300 years to reach the level of maturity necessary for harvest, the Hiba tree grows in the Aomori Prefecture in northern Honshu and is a member of the cyprus family. Hiba wood makes an excellent cutting board for a number of reasons. It's soft, and won't damage or prematurely dull knife edges. Additionally, it is high in the compound Hinokitiol, which provides it some natural antimicrobial and germicidal properties, as well as an increased resistance to rot and mold. For these reasons, much of the harvested Hiba wood is traditionally put towards the construction of temples, shrines, and other important buildings. It also smells amazing!

480mm x 230mm x 30mm

Please note: Hiba naturally contains oils, and many examples will exhibit oil spots either on the packaging or the wood itself. This is a completely natural process, as the oil is drawn out by the cardboard packaging. These spots have no effect on the board or it's usage, and will disappear with normal use.
